Happy Holiday's 2016

Welp, 2016 is coming to a close, and it's officially the week of Christmas!  This year has flown by and I've had my share of ups and downs, as it pertains to my daughter's health, but we're here!  Her most recent crisis has lasted from November 29th up until our hospital release on yesterday, December 22nd.  It was up in the air if we'd be home for the holiday, but here we are.  Things are not perfect, and certainly not as planned, but I'm thankful.

2017 Goal Planning

Goal planning for 2017 and one thing is evident, I have to cut some stuff out. I've worked extremely hard this year on my brand, and while I still plan to do just that, I also have to have BALANCE.

QCM x The Limited: Launch Celebration + Shopping Party

On last evening, I celebrated the launch of Queen City Magazine with a shopping party hosted at The Limited SouthPark store and we enjoyed each and every minute!  Stylish guests were able to meet and greet, learn more about the vision of Queen City Magazine, and shop for stylish fall looks with the accompaniment of pro stylists with The Limited.

Beauty Defined

In a world that's consumed with artificial lips, hips, and facades, I find myself asking others "How do you define beauty?".  As to be expected, I've received an array of answers ranging from personality, characters, defined facial features, physical attributes, to even notions about hair.  For me personally, beauty has been representative of style, class, and grace.  Just a few of the elements that I feel we're missing in today's society.

Must Be The Shoes!

OMG . . . . . isn't this pump amazing!  You don't have to answer that, we both know it's amazing.  Matter of fact it's phenomenal.  And this is sooooo ME!

QCM: Launch Celebration

As many of you know, on last month, September 22nd to be exact, I launched my women's publication, Queen City Magazine.  Here we are one month later, and I'm stoked to announce the official launch celebration!  (inserts a woo-hoo!)

Life at 36!

Last Friday, I was blessed to see another birthday . . . . my 36th to be exact!  I'm a true 80's baby, born in the year 1980; the definition of a Libra.  If you read any article on the Libra woman, it pretty much describes me to a T.

Interior Styling: Office Layout

If you've been following the blog, you're aware that I'm in the process of redecorating my apartment (read HERE), something I began, but stopped about a year ago.  During the process of visiting various stores in search of perfect accent pieces and add-on's, I stumbled across the deal of the century.

DESIGNER: Pink Tartan

Hey ya'll (in my southern accent, lol).  Today is Tuesday and we're pressing along through the week, but I wanted to share with you guys my look from this past Sunday.  This look came at the perfect time because I literally wore black all last week.

Remodel Project: Inspiration

This weekend, on a whim, I decided to redecorate my bedroom, and that decision turned into me redecorating my daughter's room, and that decision pushed me into revamping my living room and dining room as well.  So here I am, at work, browsing Pinterest, social media, and the "interweb" for inspiration.

Fall '16 Boot Guide

Fall is here and that can only mean one thing . . . . . BOOT SEASON!  Whether you like chelsea boots, cowboy boots, rain boots, moto boots, riding boots, heeled booties, or knee high boots, this post is for you!

Queen City Magazine

Last Thursday, September 22nd marked the first day of fall and the digital debut and cover release for Queen City Magazine, my new publication. While I was extremely excited to bring this publication to life within the Charlotte community, the events at hand, have weighed heavy on my heart.

City Lights

Well folks, it's been an interesting week here in the Queen City to say the least.  This week, my to-do list has been absolutely insane.  From blogging, to photo shoots, to attending events, and the launch of my new baby, Queen City Magazine . . .  I AM TIRED, lol.

Sunday Style

Happy Sunday folks!  I trust that everyone had a great week and weekend.  This past week I struggled with a terrible sinus infection, but I pulled it together to make it to church.  For those of you that don't know, I'm a church girl at heart, so I'm always excited about Sunday service.

The Obama's for Essence Magazine

Essence Magazine salutes the end of the Obama era with a special October collectors issue hitting newsstands Friday, September 9th.

Save the Date: Holiday Dazzle

With eager anticipation, I'm beyond excited to announce my Holiday Dazzle: Black & White Party on Saturday, December 3rd!  This holiday season is going to be filled with glitz and glamour, as we come together to celebrate in style.  For this special evening, I have so many wonderful things in store, and would love it if my friends and supporters would come out and share with me.

Southern Entertaining

The art of Southern Entertaining is simple in concept, but grand in experience.  From my experience of both attending and hosting events, a successful function of any type requires 3 constants;

  1. Venue and Decorum
  2. Dedicated Host(s) + Guests
  3. Great Food

Loving Lilac

It's Labor Day weekend . . . . whoo-hoo!  Before we all get consumed with the festivities of the holiday, which means a 3 day weekend, I wanted to share with you guys the look I put together from my recent visit to Gabe's (read the post HERE).  I have to state that I absolutely LOVE the prices at Gabe's, and the quality of selection as well.  In the last few weeks, I've scored some incredible deals, both for me, and my daughter!

GABE'S: Unbelievable!

CALLING ALL FASHIONISTAS: There's a new fashion hub in town, and their prices are UNBELIEVABLE!  If you've been following the blog, you may remember about 9 months ago I randomly discovered Gabe's, a new discount store featuring designer and famous brands for a fraction of the price (blog post HERE).  Anyway, this weekend they're having an amazing Designer Sunglasses Event that I figured I'd check out, so I dropped by early Friday morning to get a glimpse of what they had to offer.

Pretty, Poised, and Pink Brunch

Pretty, Poised, and Pink . . . . . with great anticipation and preparation, I'm so excited to have hosted this brunch on last Sunday, August 7th here in my hometown of Charlotte, NC.  In a room filled to capacity, a fabulous group of ladies came together under the concept of embracing our ladylike style while connecting with other professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives.

Charlotte Tastemaker Summit

Last Wednesday, I had the privilege and honor to be a featured panelist during the Charlotte Tastemaker Summit presented by Black Southern Belle, for the Black Southern Belle Collective.  The event was a meeting of the minds, the creative minds that is.  Professionals ranging from event planners, to interior designers, publishers, and DIY crafters alike joined forces for the ultimate display of southern girl power!

Elle Johnson for K Mills Collection

Imagine the perfect bodycon dress (in any color you can imagine) accented with a signature bow, and the perfect length (midi length) . . . . . that is the K Mills Collection by Kenya Mills.  As mentioned in my initial Shopping with Elle segment on Facebook LIVE (HERE), I recently discovered the K Mills Collection line of dresses and they are absolutely stunning.

Shopping with Elle: Florals

It's Saturday, so you know what that means . . . . Shopping with Elle on Facebook LIVE!  In today's segment I discussed the ever remaining style trend of florals, and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe.  This topic was presented as a question after last weeks segment of Shopping with Elle (HERE), so I decided to dedicate a few minutes to the subject and offer tips and suggestions of how to make florals work for you!

Shopping With Elle: K Mills Collection

Happy Saturday ladies!  It's a beautiful day to be alive and well, and hopefully you tuned in to my debut of Shopping with Elle, my new series via Facebook where I take you guys with me on shopping excursions and even style reviews!  If you remember, I mentioned doing the live series HERE and I finally did it.  Unfortunately I was delayed getting things in motion due to my daughter's recent hospitalization, but here we are!

Blushing Bride

On last night your favorite athletes and their spouses, who often times have just as much fame as their counterparts, gathered for the 2016 ESPY's at the Microsoft Theater in LA.  Of course this award show celebrates the accomplishments of athletes, but more importantly for me it gives us a glimpse into the personal style of these phenoms.

ABC's of Me

We're halfway through the year and like many of you I'm evaluating my laundry list of to-do's and goals.    Having said that, I quite often receive inquiries of a personal nature; random questions of my personal favs, things that I like and dislike, so I've decided to compile the ABC's of me!

Turbans on Trend

Hallelujah, it's Thursday, which means we have only one more day to go until the weekend, HOORAY!  As I begin to plan my weekend activities, there's always one looming nuisance in the back of my mind, my hair, what to do to it!

Chanel - Haute Couture

This week kicks of Haute Couture Week in Paris, and my all time favorite brand, Chanel, did not disappoint.  The Chanel Fall/Winter '16-17 Haute Couture Show at the Grand Palais featured the brand's infamous tweed fabrics, but also infused beautiful feathers, bows, and dazzling sequins.

Crush by Rihanna

Tantalizing, seductive, yet dainty.  Rihanna just released a teaser promo for her new fragrance launching in August, Crush by Rihanna, and the visuals are stunning.  A follow up to her prior release RiRi by Rihanna (blogged HERE), the new scent pairs woody scents with playful red fruits and pink musk.

Dinner is Served

Last Thursday, my BFF, Rashon Carraway celebrated his birthday with an official birthday dinner in a private gallery space.  He coincidentally shares his birthday with Prince (who I am a huge fan of) and that's probably another reason to add to the list of why I love him dearly.  To commemorate the occasion he hosted an all-black intimate dinner party of friends and supporters.

Melanin Monday

Danai Gurina

As the nation mourned the loss of those affected by the tragic mass shooting that occurred in Orlando, FL over the weekend, the 70th annual Tony Awards took place at the Beacon Theater in NYC.  The Tony Awards recognize and celebrate achievements in Broadway productions for the prior season, and this year's red carpet was a virtual sea of MELANIN.

FB LIVE: Shopping with Elle Series

Happy Monday everyone!  It's a new week, which means a new start and another opportunity to get it right.  I have some great news to share with each of you, in particular those of you who remember and have asked me to bring back my Shopping with Elle posts.

The Daintiest Dame

How do you you (in my most royal of accents)?  I recently hosted my annual Royal Tea Party + Spring Brunch (blog post HERE) and I wanted to briefly share my look with you!  Considering that the event is dubbed the Royal Tea Party, I thought it befitting of me to fully embrace the theme and come suited in an intricate hat design and matching tea party dress.

Wedding Wow

This Saturday I had the pleasure and honor to attend the nuptials of one of my true supporters, Sharell Johnson to David Daley at the River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie, SC.  The wedding was really nice and the bride dazzled in her dress (the groom also looked handsome).  I wish them all the best and pray that God blesses their union.

Royal Tea Party + Spring Brunch

all attendees received beautiful folding fans as a thank you gift
"The liberal feminist movement never imagined that women would take seriously the encouragement to become our own heroes and claim life for ourselves, on our terms, no matter who we are. Pro-choice and pro-life, Christian and not, poor and rich, black, white, gay and straight. It is a dream we all hold dear, and it's called the Tea Party."  - Tammy Bruce

How to D.R.E.S.S

Happy Pentecost Sunday!  In today's blog post, I decided to dedicate this opportunity to explain (and answer the question that I get asked the most) about why I like to D.R.E.S.S.  For the last year or two, I've traveled and had the opportunity to speak with young girls and women, and during each engagement, I make it a point to explain, 'How to D.R.E.S.S'.

Color Conundrum: June Ambrose

If there were ever a fashion fairy godmother, I have no doubt it would be the enchanting June Ambrose.  From her over-sized eyewear, to her chic turbans and powerful stilettos, this maven always hits the mark!

What to Wear to a Spring Brunch

OMG ladies, I'm so excited about the upcoming 3rd annual Royal Tea Party / Spring Brunch hosted by yours truly at the Ballantyne Resort on Sunday, May 22nd.  It's going to be such a grand time with you beautiful ladies, I can't wait!

Fruity Fashion

I recently spotted these fruity clutch purses on the IG of No. 14 Boutique and immediately feel in love with them.  Not only are they dainty and stylish, they are fresh and punchy with color.

Class, Will, and Determination

If ever my legs should fail me, just allow me to post up like this!  This photo of this well dressed senior gives me such joy and inspiration.  She reminds me so much of my grandmother on my father's side that passed in 1999.

Claire Danes: Elle of the Ball

On last evening, celebrities, socialites, and stars alike gathered for the annual Met Gala 2016.  While many looked "nice" (at best), there wasn't a dress in the room that could compete with this regal beauty worn by Claire Danes, and designed by Zac Posen.

God does all things well

Happy Monday folks, it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood and I'm feeling mighty fine (I just love the way that sounds, lol).  To bring you guys up to date with things, the last week has been extremely difficult for me and my daughter as there were some perceived issues with her health, in addition to the sickle cell disease.

Rihanna . . . . . Needed Me

And with just a few photos Rihanna has officially broke the internet!  Today photos surfaced of the hit singer in this seductive sheer lingerie ensemble to include a sheer robe and thong embellished with a pearl necklace.  We absolutely LOVE this look on her!  What are your thoughts?

You Get What You Pay For

I've said it time and time again . . . . YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Ladies, please stop ordering these $10 dresses from these companies in China and overseas. You CANNOT get a $2,000 look for $20 (with FREE shipping), it just doesn't happen that way. In order to get a quality garment, you have to pay something!

Floral Delight

Happy Sunday!  I'll start by saying that I'm completely obsessed with my skirt, lol.  I had it custom made last May and kinda forgot about it, because I have absolutely no room in my closet and I've resorted to leaving things in their respective shopping bags.  I know, that sounds terrible, and it is, but I discovered this beauty while trying to reorganize my closet this weekend.

Spring Treats at Kate Spade

Spring is fastly approaching and that means brunches, soirees, and cocktail parties.  Having said that, it's only fitting that I purchase a few signature pieces, that just so happen to be KATE SPADE (as if you expected anything else)!  Let me start from the beginning (kinda - sorta) . . . . .

1st Day of Spring

Today marks the 1st day of spring and you would think I'd be wearing some fanciful floral arrangement, but . . . . . baby it's cold outside!  Cold as in I had to turn the heat on to "knock the chill off" as the old folks would say.  Nevertheless I'm happy to be here and was happy to return to church on today after missing the last few weeks due to work and traveling.

Upcoming Events

CIAA 2016: Barbie Pink

Welp, it's Saturday, which means I made it through Thursday's Cocktails in the City, lol.  I've been on the go for what feels like a couple weeks juggling both my brands, Elle VJ and Dainty Dames Lingerie, and today I can finally rest (sort of).  Thursday night's CIAA edition of Cocktails in the City was a success and I enjoyed each and every minute of it.

Cocktails in the City: TOURNAMENT EDITION
